The Museum

The Prince Edward Island Potato Museum is located in the town O’Leary, Prince Edward Island and is home to the largest collection of potato related artifacts in the world! The museum has a mix of potato industry items and farming equipments. The O’Leary Community Museum is also housed in the same building. The property also contains: The Potato Hall of Fame, Heritage Chapel, Log Barn and Little Red Schoolhouse on the property. Be sure not to miss the 14 foot high potato sculpture.

What We Did

Early on in the project we went to the Potato Museum and brought seventy-five artifacts back to the main office for processing. Of that seventy-five all have been fully processed. Each object has been accessioned, cataloged, and given its own record in Past Perfect. Accession numbers were applied to each object and a detailed condition report was completed for each. Every artifact was also thoroughly researched on such things as maker marks, history of designs, and types of materials used etc. Photographs were taken and light cleaning done. The photographs have been resized, edited, renamed as their accession number and burned to a CD. A number of cataloged records have been entered into the Past Perfect system with the rest being left to onsite staff for training purposes. The artifacts were returned wrapped in acid free tissue paper and labeled with accession numbers.

The Artifacts

These four artifacts were donated to the Potato Museum by members of the local community and they represent a nice example of the types of artifacts that we worked with.
