The Community Museums Association of PEI
The Community Museums Association of PEI (CMA) is committed to providing training and assistance to our member sites through training workshops and by encouraging participation in cooperative projects that encompass the entire Island. We feel that a hands-on approach to training and support enables our members to upgrade their collection records, museological skills, and in turn bring growth to their museum. From this commitment, CMA has undertaken to promote the Island-wide development and adoption of standard principles and practices.
The Project
The Collections Management Support Program is the latest in a long-line of assistance projects undertaken by CMA for the benefit of our member museums. One of the most basic functions of museums is the development, research and documentation of the collections that they are committed to preserve for the future. Collections Management is integral to the proper and effective operation and interpretation of a museum.
The Collections Management Support Program began in December of 2007, over the six months the staff made site visits to eight museums across the province providing support and training specific to the needs of each site.
Funding
Funded by the Canada/ Prince Edward Island labour Market Development Agreement, the Community Museums Association of PEI was able to hire three local residents with a keen interest and passion for the preservation of Island history.
Thank you for your interest and we hope you enjoy this website dedicated to sharing the wealth of information held in the Island’s museums. We thank the participating community museums for their support and allowing us to share the site with you. The site offers a very small sample of what our community museums hold in their collections and have on display throughout the Island. We hope you enjoy this virtual visit and welcome you to our many doors.
