The Museum

The Farmer’s Bank of Rustico is located in Rustico, Prince Edward Island, the oldest Acadian settlement in Prince Edward Island. The Farmer’s Bank is a National Historic Site and houses an exhibit on Rustico’s early Acadian inhabitants. The museum also commemorates the legacy of well known Reverend Georges-Antoine Belcourt who served as parish priest in Rustico from 1859 to 1869. The Farmers’ Bank operated from 1864 to 1894 and is a symbol of Acadian survival and PEI architecture. Also, on the property is the Doucet House the oldest house in Rustico.

What We Did

At the Farmers’ Bank Museum we worked with one hundred and ten separate artifacts from one collection. This collection consisted of items acquired from St. Augustine’s Church. These included: religious statues, priestly garments, religious banners, photographs and books. We accessioned, catalogued, and noted the condition of each object. We also researched makers marks, history of designs, and types of materials used. As well, each artifact has been cleaned and photographed. The photographs have been resized, edited, renamed as their accession number and burned to a CD. An accession list and copies of all catalogue records have been provided to the museum. All catalogue records have been entered into the Past Perfect system.

An accession register was recreated based on old information. The new files were cross referenced against the cataloging sheets. Finally, the names of objects were updated to nomenclature standards and noted in the files.
