The Museum

The Bideford Parsonage Muesum is located in the community of Bideford, Prince Edward Island. It was built in 1878, for Mr. T.H Pope and his wife Susan Elizabeth Yeo. In 1884, the house was converted into a parsonage by the local Methodist church. In 1999 the house was saved from leaving the community by the West Country Historical Society. It is now a museum with three distinct themes: ship building, the parsonage, and the life Lucy Maud Montgomery. Lucy Maud boarded here for a year while teaching at the local school 1894-1895.

What We Did

At the Bideford Parsonage Museum, the Collections Management team provided both training and cataloging assistance. Due to the travel distance, amount of work required and weather, the team stayed over night to provide as much time as possible to the site. The team catalogued a large collection of books. Each book was accessioned, catalogued, and condition reported. Artifacts were photographed and the image files re-sized and named according to accession numbers. A large percentage of the catalogue records were then entered into the Past Perfect computer system and images tagged to corresponding records, with the remaining being left for the onsite staff for training purposes.

Training was provided to the Bideford Parsonage Museum in the form of a refresher on the use of Past Perfect for data entry and adding images to records. New imaging software installed on their current system and training was provided on tagging images to records. We also discussed the benefits of naming, re-sizing, and organizing artifact images. An overview on using nomenclature for classifying man made objects was also provided at that time.

In April, on a second visit to the site, additional photographs and measurements of artifacts were taken.
