Object History

The dollhouse was given as a Christmas gift to Adele Frizzell Heckmann in 1951. Many dollhouses were ordered through the Sears and Eaton’s Catalogues. Made by the Marx & Company was located at 200 Fifth Avenue, New York, New York. After WWII Marx & Company was the largest manufacturer of toys in the United States. Marx & Company was famous for the re-introduction of the Yo-Yo in 1928. Marx & Company dominated the production of mechanical toys, model trains, guns, cars, ride-ons, play sets, doll houses, vehicles, and service stations in the US.

Description

Dollhouse; white, rust, blue, yellow, red, orange, pink; two story lithographed dollhouse; rectangular in shape with attached "A" shaped roof; dollhouse originally came un -assembled; wall sections have "u" shaped metal tabs (lugs) which are inserted into corresponding slots of connecting walls, lugs are then folded over to secure, front and both sides are solid, while back is open making each room accessible; Dollhouse comes complete with miniature plastic furniture to furnish the rooms and play yard (54 pieces in total); attached at roof peak (l) a folded metal chimney adorned with images of brinks all over in brown, blue, and yellow ( Height= 7cm, Width = 3.4cm Depth = 6.5cm) , chimney extends 4.6 cm above roof; roof is adorned all over with a staggered rectangular shingle pattern in rust red color. Measurements - 39.9 cm high 63 cm wide and 20.4cm in depth.
