Object History
The brown robes indicate that this is a Franciscan and tonsured hair which represents crown of thorns. “Gloria in Excelisis Deo” means “Glory to God in the Highest” slight variations of the words angels said to the shepherds at the birth of Jesus Christ. St. Anthony of Padua is the saint most often seen with lilies and the images of the child Jesus. The child represents God choosing human vulnerability. The lily represents purity, innocence, integrity and shows honor and trust in holding the child and lily represents why he is given this honor.
