Object History

The Sacred Heart is a religious devotion to Jesus Christ’s physical heart as the representation of divine love for humanity. It stresses Christian concepts of loving and adoring of Jesus. There is a feast of the sacred heart 19 days after Pentecost always falls on a Friday.

Description

Metal painted with white paint. Figure of Jesus Chirst with his arms spread wide, hands are both broken off, metal showing; metal also showing on nose; flowing robes; sacred heart showing; standing on pedestal crown of thorns on left; chalace on right; base says “SACRED HEART OF JESUS/ THY KINGDOM COME”; brown felt bottom glued on; possibly hollow. Manufactured by J.J.Ellicott. Height 18cm Width 9 across arms and 6.5 cm at base.
